Finding Space in an Tight Place: Interior Design/Build of an Under-the-stairs Pantry

This family woke to a huge noise that was the wire shelving in their under-the-stairs pantry collapsing into a heap.

The pantry had always been an annoyance. It was tight, and the wire shelves ran into a low head-room space that was unusable. Now, the family had the opportunity to reimagine the space and asked for a full Rethink.

We built custom shelves that provided deep, double-layered storage, and a shallow wing-wall for cans. We built a double-deep section where the head-room was lowest so that seldom-used supplies could still be handy without being in the way. The bottom shelves are tall enough for wine-crates, which keeps libations handy while the family rolls out their  pasta.

Finally we added a little bit of visual interest for their equipment storage.

The crates were also painted white (though not before the pictures here.)

"I love, love, love my new pantry. I can't belieave how much spave you found. It's clean and efficient but also so calming and beautiful. I smile every time I open the door"
