New Colors and a Revised Layout Make This Space Feel New

A RoomRethink living room redesign for a couple who wanted an update without buying all new furniture. New paint and a smart layout brightened their outlook!

Bob and Anne wanted a living room redesign without buying new furniture. After messing with different curtains and some paint options, they decided to call in some interior design rethinkers at RoomRethink. Together we worked to make the end result something wonderful.

Knowing Ann’s eye for beautiful things, her love of blue and classic colors, our goal was to harmonize what they had with a new look that didn’t lose their personal style and beautiful craftsmanship which needed to be brought to the forefront.

We immediately noticed light outside wasn’t making its way inside due to heavy curtains and furniture that blocked the lovely view of a pond and some well-fed friendly ducks.

Together we found an up-to-date, versatile gray for the walls and a bronze for the chimney. We chose lightweight linen window treatments, plus couch pillows that pulled in and balanced the colorful couches, new décor, and artwork.

A revised furniture layout brought the whole look together. We were all ecstatic with the result but best of all, the couple both felt instantly at home in their new space.

And that is what we at RoomRethink call a job well done.

"I love sitting in my redesigned home and enjoying the beauty around me. I truly could NOT have done this without their help and expertise! They surpassed my every expectation. My husband and I are so pleased and can’t wait to entertain our friends! "

Anne's Story

Ann had a dream. She dreamed of deep teal couches, bright breezy curtains, and light, lots of it! But where to begin? After purchasing a number of curtains and [messing] with colors Ann decided to call us in.

Ann was sure of two things, she wanted to paint the fireplace gray, and she had the desire to highlight her favorite color, blue. While she wanted a deep teal couch, it was not something they were ready to splurge on just yet, so the one stipulation they had was no new furniture.

After our first consultation, with our suggested color palette in hand, and a personalized mood board, Bob and Ann got to work. Within the week the house was painted! Walls, fireplace, and kitchen cabinets. Phase one was done, their canvas was primed.

A second consult brought in some paint touch-ups. The entryway was a mix of three different wood stains, this was an effort to work with Bob’s handmade wood railings. We suggested that instead of trying to match the railings, paint the entry doors and trim gray to make Bob’s beautiful railings stand out! Other suggestions were to paint the window trim next to the fireplace and over the kitchen sink. New curtains were chosen and hung, furniture was stationed and we helped choose and place new art. Bob even refaced the wood stove. It looks great Bob!

Our final consult brought updates to the kitchen decor, some well-placed trays, and new planters.

Voilà! We couldn’t be happier with the results. Great teamwork guys and thanks for making it fun!
