Norwalk Living Room Interior Design

The old living room design The new living room interior design moves the curtains to the outside of the windows, and uses lighter fabrics, brightening the room. The light gray walls soften but don't darken.

White Chocolate Minimalism, Family Style

With a white canvas, your life becomes a painting.

We love white. White is characteristic of someone who appreciates simple elegance. This refined palate shows you enjoy things that are well crafted, beautiful and aesthetically pleasing.

A love for white was evident within minutes of our phone consult with our client. Her vision was to have a clean, minimal look brought to life through her love of white. But helpful family and friends had convinced her that white would make the room stark, cold, and bare. A dentist’s office, not a family room.

This is where we came in.

Our first observation was on the off-white walls. This and the matching off-white pillows and rugs were holding the room captive to a bygone-era palette.

We helped narrow down the desired wall color and once they were painted (Benjamin Moore- Decorators White) our canvas was set!

We replaced the off-white pillows opening up the dark gray couch. The new compilation of linen, velvet, and leather pillows brought warmth, texture, and clean lines for a warm, modern, minimalist look.

The floor was graced with a beautiful wool rug that softened the dark slate floor, lightened the heavy gray couch, and warmed the white walls with its soft texture and color.

Windows were elevated with well-placed rods, curtains, and —for added warmth and privacy— bamboo blinds.

Family photos were placed up front and center as part of the decor and a simple, peaceful landscape print brought a hint of cheerful color to the white walls.

A wooden coffee table added warmth while the marble top kept it light and airy against the dark couch.

With the placement of a light green TV console as our final piece, the room harmoniously came together!

We loved this project because we were able to help our client embrace her love of white (in a way that her family would love too) and elevate her space to a simply elegant family room that is warm and inviting.

"I cannot believe how much lighter the room feels and I love the way you've harmonized the darks from the floor using the console and greenery."

The Interior Design Story

Here’s a way to find harmony in a room that is shared by family members who don’t have a design sense in common but who are willing to compromise or at least to try new things. The design takes light, airy colors and adds in some masculine shades and shapes to become a harmonious space the whole family can enjoy.

This family won a RoomRethink Stage 1 in a silent auction. The wife loved clean, white design, but was being told by her friends that she had to add colors. Her husband also has definite opinions and worried that painting the walls light would look institutional, not homey. To his credit, he took on the painting himself and did an excellent job! We moved the curtains outside and above the windows to make them feel bigger and let in the light. We recommended a light gray wallpaint, found the perfect rug and a great console to replace the dated one.

The new living room design is loved by the whole family and we loved being part of it!
